Westpoint Running offers its rookies set group sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays where they will be under the watchful eye of one of our coaches. The sessions are scheduled for early mornings with a finishing time to suit the morning bell at school.
Structured programs are driven through our app with each day highlighting the planned session along with a step-by-step guide. So even if the athlete misses the group session, they can still complete it in their own time.
Our coaches encourage group training and help to instill the discipline a young athlete needs to elevate them to the levels they aspire to. A training group offers an opportunity for new, like-minded friends with a healthy approach to their sport.
5am track sessions under the watchful eye of a coach where young athletes not only work on fitness and speed, but focus on running form and track etiquette.
The sessions are made up of effective warm up and activations followed by tried and tested run drills.
Structured pacing guides mean that this is never a race or a competition, but a platform for learning, growing and improving one's running from any level.
Wednesdays are easy runs in the athlete's own time. Our app offers session instructions as well as a pacing guide so that the athlete can complete their session in their own time and in the safety of their own school, neighbourhood or club.
A great mix of sessions that incorporate speed, endurance, hills and strength - depending on the week's program. The sessions are primarily Durban North-based in safe, controlled areas with a coach.
Westpoint Rookies are given running-specific strength exercises to complete in their own time and at their own pace. The exercises are offered in a step-by-step format and include links to videos on how to execute them. The sessions are short, manageable and effective.
Saturday sessions are optional and usually attract the more serious young athletes with big goals. They are done in the athlete's own time and feature events such as School Sport, Park Run, local race events and fun runs. They are a great test of improvement and character alike.
Whilst we monitor every young athlete, no sessions are compulsory as we understand and respect the busy nature of their school and sporting commitments. Westpoint Running should always be fun and manageable.
Coaching fees are billed monthly in advance at R500.00 per athlete. Siblings of athletes qualify for a 20% discount.
The fee includes a structured program, two group sessions per week with a coach and subscription to our app.
There is no contract, but a month’s written notice is required for termination of coaching.
Final Surge is an advanced app that both details workouts as well as harvests data post-session. The data is viewable by the athlete as well as parents and coaches alike. Whilst the app requires a measuring device to obtain data, having one is not a prerequisite to being a part of Westpoint Rookies. At the end of the day, technology is no replacement for hard work turning into results.
The app also works as a communication tool for athletes, parents and coaches; and has some built-in features that enhance athlete safety and encourage participation. It is a closed platform that can only be accessed by those with permission.
